Awarded Silver in Heritage and Cultural Tourism, The River Retreat, Swan Valley presents a NEW cultural
tourism attraction to satisfy those looking for a unique evening
entertainment experience near Perth. “Didge after Dark”
blends great Australian hospitality and images of a land during
the Dream-time.
Enjoy the aroma of sizzling Bush-tucker food and
refreshing welcome drink of
Rosella flower & champagne whilst unwinding at sunset in the River Retreats’
bush food garden.
In
addition to bush tucker, such as smoked kangaroo & bush tomato relish, there are also
many vegetarian options fresh from local growers in the valley.
To
compliment the unique food experience, a tour through Maalinup
Aboriginal art Gallery supplies you the opportunity to purchase
bush food spices, sauces and chutneys.
|

|
 |
Maalinup
has a superb
range of traditional and contemporary Aboriginal paintings.
The
selection of gifts and souvenirs includes: hand painted glassware, woodware and
terracotta; stunning “bush seed”, gem stone and Sterling silver jewellery;
aromatherapy products and printed stationery; carved and painted Emu eggs; traditional artefacts,
hand carving using local timbers, –
all from local Aboriginal artists and suppliers.
After dusk
your guide leads a short walk to the riverbank
(star gazing on the way) to join the local people around the
fire pit to share the stories, dance and music of this ancient land.
|
|
If it is a rainy day then you will proceed to enjoy the cosy
purpose built performance shed.
The stars of the evening dance to the traditional music of the
didgeridoo. Join in the dance or try the didge. The dancers are
all descendants of the aboriginal community and have a strong
affiliation with the local culture and way of life. Their
performance is the highlight of the evening and gives you a living
window back to the Dreamtime.
Finish off the evening with delicious bush infused deserts tea
and coffee.
“Research has shown that 80% of visitors to Australia are
seeking an aboriginal experience and only 8% go home with one.
The Swan Valley is steeped in aboriginal history and as such is
an ideal location to offer this experience. We are in the heart
of the Swan Valley, yet only 30 minutes from Perth CBD.”
